The Importance of Smelling Good

Smelling good is something important to everyone. You wouldn't go around smelling like you haven't bathed for a month now, would you? Although I've encountered some people who'd make me eat those words. It's amazing also how so many people are self concious about how they look: prim and proper hair cut, ironed clothes so stiff that you can bounce a quarter, and enought cologne or perfume to drown a duck. These people place looking good and smelling good high in their priority list. However, it's amazing how many of these people have stinky homes or apartments.

I know, I know, it's an unfair presumption, and not all of their homes can smell like a candle maker's home. Our home, in case you wonder, has a mixture of food scents, then a mixture of candles, lotions that the entire family has (different scents of course), and reed diffusers that are in every room. Not to mention the smelly jellies in our the bathroom, or closets, or the nine kinds of soaps because no one likes the same smelling soaps.

Regardless, what I am ranting (or blogging about), is that I have the maximum overdrive of scents, but some homekeepers do not have a single scent in their home. Ziltch, no candles, smelly jellies, or reed diffusers. Unless you are sensitive to smells, pick up a soy candle, and start smelling good. You don't want an unexpected visitor to find out that your house smells like mold, or what you cooked from yesterday, or dirty laundry that's been piling up, or the castle of your precious (cat/dog/canary). Be responsible, and remember that if you smell good all the time, your home should too.

Reed Diffusers - New Fall Scents at Wick-edly Sent

Reed diffusers began as an alternative to scented candles for those who didn’t care for the hassle of a candle. Now Wick-edly Sent carries unique designs and new fall scents.

Canandaigua, NY, September 04, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Reed diffusers sell for a wider audience. People who couldn’t burn candles can happily purchase one with assurance. College students, people in assisted living, and mothers can leave a reed stick diffuser in their children’s bedroom in confidence. Consumers at first didn’t have a lot to choose from, faced with diffusers with scents that were once popular with candles, but now reborn into a diffuser.

However, with new stylish designs, and with unique scents underway, reed diffusers are now becoming an easy choice for gift buyers. To keep customers happy, and buying, the trend is now to carry unique scents. “We sell more reed diffusers in unique scents, then candles in more traditional scents,” Don Stevens said, from Wick-edly Sent Soap and Candle Company, a shop in Upstate New York, where they make their own scented products. Candles still sell well, but room diffusers are becoming just as popular. Just like candles, diffusers can add a touch of elegance and design to any room. With their simple packaging and versatile convenience, these home scenting must haves will win you over. Unusual bottles can interest people at first, but it’s the scent that wins them over.

Wick-edly Sent carries unique scents that are chosen and approved by their customers. Scents like Violet and Birch, and Rain, have become instant best sellers, pleasing anyone who is a floral person, right down to most discriminating consumer who wants their room smelling “fresh”. Yoga students love the scent of Lotus Blossom, keeping them more focused and balanced. Matching scents to rooms in homes have become a great selling point for diffusers. Verbena Lemongrass is a new scent that is fresh and geared for kitchens, while warming Apricot Vanilla, or the meadow-like Autumn Spice are great to scent larger rooms, such as the living room, or a family room.

Reed Diffusers are not showing any signs of slowing down. Packed with stylish design, and innovative scents, they will continue to sell to customers who will always look for something new and unique.

Collision of Fragrance

Labor Day is here it seems like August just flew by and here at Wick-edly Sent that means we have a new Scent of the Month. Ginger Fig made a huge hit earlier this summer when we introduced it in a candle now it's time to let you try it in a shower gel and lotion. For our customers that are not familiar with the scent, fig is captured with a subtle note of ginger to make this a great collision of fragrances. Our clean burning soy candles are only enhanced by this gentle scent which will waft through your home creating a pleasant aroma. Now with September here you can take that same scent and move it into your bath with the Body Wash, Glycerin Soap and Body Lotion. Until we see you either in person or online have a safe Labor Day Weekend.

What is Palm Wax

Today we've had several customers ask "What is Palm Wax"? Palm wax is an ecologically renewable product made from wax distilled from the leaves of palm trees. The nature of the palm wax is much harder than paraffin wax and has a higher melting point and with this kind of advantage, the candle will stay hard even in our hot summer months. The marble or crystal effect that you see on our pillars is part technique but mostly it is the nature of the wax. We can control the effect by altering our technique and adding different waxes to our palm wax base. To get the best burn from our pillar, burn the candle long enough the first time you light it so a wax pool forms that covers almost the entire top of the candle. With pillar candles you need to leave a rim of about 1/4". Extinguish the candle when it reaches this point. Depending on the diameter of the candle, the initial burn time may be anywhere from 1 hour up to 3 or 4 hours. Subsequently you should plan to burn the candle until it reaches the ″memory pool″ you created with the first burn. Generally this is longer than the first burn. Following these guidelines will ensure a cleaner and longer lasting candle. You must also remember to reduce the wick to 1/8" before each burn and keep all candles away from drafts as much as possible and never leave a burning candle unattended. Well I hope the answers some of the questions and we look forward to seeing you in the store or online. Until then, have a great summer!

Why do we make soy candles?

Most of the time, when someone arrives in our store and are in awe of the spectacular candle case, they ask us if our candles are made with soy wax. "Yes", we reply, it's a soy blend. Nine times out of ten people asks us "What's the difference?". Well, for those of you who haven't mustered up enough courage to ask, or feel like we'll give you a hard time for not knowing, here are the benefits of soy:

  1. Soy Candles burn cleaner.
  2. Soy Candles are better for the environment.
  3. Soy Candles last longer.

Burning cleaner means less black smoke or soot. As an added benefit, we now include a smoke free zinc wick (don't worry, it's not lead). Better for the environment means that it's not the traditional all parrafin base that is most often used by other companies. Soy candles actually lasts about a third longer than other candles. Some people say twice as long, but I won't, it certainly depends on where you burn them. Keep them away from drafts, and trim the wick before lighting them every time, and you'll see them last even longer!
